Today I was in North Devon, a beautiful part of the world. At the top of the hill above the village of Kings Nympton I came across this,a beacon. Before the invention of telephones and the suchlike beacons were arranged in line of sight on high ground and fires lit in them to give warning of threats and disasters. This one may be a historic site but was probably put up for the Queen’s Jubilee. Afterwards we had an excellent lunch at the Globe Inn down in the village. Highly recommended.
