I was woken bright and early by the Mistral wind rattling the shutters which meant that we were on the road before the worst of the Avignon morning rush hour. This was just as well as we’ve a long way to go.
Long run on the motorway and pulled off into Beaune for a quick lunch. Seems an attractive place
but we moved on quickly as it started to rain.
The drive took us up through the beautiful region of Burgundy, wonderful scenery and wine can’t be bad. We made our way straight to Vezelay with it’s stunning Basilica on top of the hill.
From the hill there are outstanding views in all directions.
I had been advised that you need at least a whole day to look at the basilica properly so we just walked about with only a brief look inside; enough to make me want to go back for a much longer visit.
So we moved on to A call on where we dropped our things of at the hotel before taking a walk round what appears to be a typical, neat Burgundian town.
And to prove that we’re in France we found this; for scale the base is about one metre square.
