Boules!
Mrs Sixwheeler and I have been looking for something that we could do together and she came up with Boules. We used to play a bit years ago when on family holidays in France and we have a couple of sets of boules, so today we gave it a go.
Apparently Bath had two clubs which play and we went along to meet one of them today and have a game. We were made very welcome and, playing with three others, our team won. I’m afraid to confess that it does bring out my competitive side! We’re looking forward to playing again, so today was a real success.

I need to learn to play this. THere is a group of older men on the Champ de Mars who play every day. Interestingly, they are all Italian. We call them the Italian mafia. They are a hoot to watch.
There are groups of,mostly, men on any fairly level piece of ground anywhere from the Midi south. When we used to holiday in a gite in the Ardeche department with the family our landlord was the village champion, he and his so were the village doubles champions and his wife and daughter were pretty handy too. So we were introduced by a class act!
You should try it as it really is great fun but be warned it is fiercely competitive. You’ll have fun as the old men will make great play of instructing you, they will encourage you and tell you how well you are doing then beat the hell out of you. Remember they have a lifetime of experience and gamesmanship.
Give it a go and don’t forget to write about it.
